How do I create a ssid?

My friend is trying to connect wirelessly to the internet and her computer keeps asking for an ssid. What is this and how do I help her connect?

The SSID is the ID given to your wireless router when it is setup. Typically they wouldn’t have to manually put in the SSID unless the router is set to not broadcast the SSID it has been set to. I know this means nothing to you right now, but answer this question:

Do you have a wireless router hooked up to your modem? Your modem is the internet connection connected into the wall. The router is the little box connected to the modem. You might have one, you might not. Even then, you might ONLY have a router and not a WIRELESS router. To tell this just look at it. If there are one or two antenna sticking up from it then it is a wireless router, if not, then you just have a router and its not possible to connect wirelessly.

It takes a bit of setup to get a wireless router working. I doubt you have one that isn’t functioning - its more likely you’ll have to buy some hardware. If, however, you DO have a wirless connection, just google how to have the system automatically setup a wireless connection on whatever operating system is on his laptop.

Feel free to message me if you can’t figure it out.
