How can you prevent frequent nightmares?

I’m in my late twenties now and for as long as I can remember I have been plagued by nightmares. I read that the average adult has a nightmare about once a month, but I am having them nearly every night. Some are so vivid that they continue to disturb when I’m awake. I do not take any drugs or drink frequently, no scary books or movies. There are no radio or background noises while I sleep. Aside from my father dying when I was 10, I’ve had no trauma to provoke them. I’ve become afraid to sleep, and am desperate to find some answers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, there may be trauma you’ve repressed… Or maybe it’s how you deal with anxiety? Consider talking to a doctor and a counselor/psychologist…
