how can I stop my dog doing this?

I have a 6 month golden lab I got from when he was a pup but when I go out for walks with him he keeps jumping and pulling when he sees another dog or person on the same side as us but he will walk next to me other than that and it is only to be frendly to them not attack. sometimes I dont like bringing him out as he does it so much people prob think that he cant train his dog, but I bring a stick with me and when I see someone I hold the stick under his neck and this worked for a little while then he just started to wait till the people passed and jump behind me to them, I was told to try tap him on the nose with the stick to stop him but I just dont see that helping is it a good way to stop it or do you got any better ideas also I want to train him to sit and all that so far all I was able to teach him is to fetch he just jumps up on me when I try anything else as he is a hyper dog I try to bring him out every day for a hour or so walk will he learn when he is ready and will the jumping up stop?

When you see people or a dog passing, dont make a deal of it and keep walking. Your dog can react to things through what he feels through the leash… he will reflect your energy. If you tense up when you see a stranger or another dog, your dog will sense that and react. I trained my 3 dogs that way. If we walk by a fence with barking dogs on the other side, they just walk right past because thats what I do. As for the jumping on people, flatten your hand and push him in the nose EVERY time he jumps up on someone and say NO! If you have everyone in your family on board, this training will work. Dont give up on him now, he is a pup and this is the best time to train him. Go onto youtube and check out some of the Cesar Milan (the dog whisperer) videos. I hope that you can get something out of that! Good luck!

thats normal for dogs. they just like to go up and sniff other dogs butts. but if you want him to be good just bring a spray bottle wit water and spray him and his face when he acts up. if he doesnt like it keep doin it everytime he jumps up. eventually he’ll stop.

Jumping up and pulling on the leash are habits that you should try to stop your dog from doing when they are a puppy. It is very important to train him now, before he learns bad habits and so it will be easier for him to learn good ones (like sit or lie down). Puppy training classes are a good idea, the trainers there can show you techniques to train him and then you can learn how to teach him and train him at home. Good luck, hope I helped!

Do you have him where he’ll sit on command? If you do, when you see another dog coming…you put him in a sit…and make stay there, until that dog passes. You might need a prong collar if he’s very strong, and you aren’t. Remember to put him into the sit, lift UP, don’t pull…the strongest part of a dog is the chest and neck, and it’s instictive to pull forward when you pull back.

I highly doubt a Labrador would be even slighly affected by a spry bottle…LOL…they’re made for the water…he’d probably LOVE IT.

You are in command, and therefore the leader. The first time will feel very frustrating…if you have to, put him in a sit with his back to the dog coming…Don’t worry what others may think…concentrate on the fact that this is a training exercise.

well if you haven’t seen a Victoria Stillwell (It’s Me Or The Dog) episode, than you could try some chicken and walk him around dogs and distract him with the chicken. Once he has that down let him see the dog and command him to sit or stay. When he does what you told him to do give him a piece of cold chicken as a award. Once he gets into that habit he’ll expect treats and be on his best behavior. After a while you could substitute the chicken with a favorite treat that your dog likes or dry treats
