How can I sort out possibly joining up into the milartary?

Ok, well every since I was about 5 I’ve wanted to join the army, but back then it was more of wanting to drive the tanks lol. But about 2 years ago,I really started to think about it, wondering if I’d make enough money, make a living. But I quit the idea, when I realised it would really hurt my friend who hear if I was hurt, but I’d rather have happy,non-worried friends. But now I’m re-thinking it all! I wanted to be a chef, my dream was to b a head chef in my own restaurant. But I don’t want to leave with nothing behind. So I have started to think about leaving after a bit and having a family. And not inlisting at the age of 18. Can any one help me see clearer about it? Possibly anyone thats gone thru the same process? Thanks

You could do one of the less front line jobs in the army? Something that may be good for you is being a chef within the military: soldiers need to eat and people need to cook and serve this food, so I know they do take on people for that role. There are also things like being an engineer or specialist in one of the other technical areas? Not everything is combat based, so you do not need to worry so much about the possibility of being hurt.

Usually when you enrol in the military services you have to serve a set amount of time (I know in the Navy in the UK it is 12 months at seas) in order to qualify through training, and then you get to pick whether you continue or not. Maybe try it out for that length of time and see how you feel afterwards? Honestly, if I were your I would talk to as many people in the military as possible and see if it sounds like something you could do. Maybe get work experience in local kitchens too and just get a feel for the job and which one you prefer? If you are still at school then talk to your careers counsellors, as they may be able to help find which is the bette path for you :)
