How can I know if he likes me?

Okay! So there’s this guy I used to have a “thing” with.. We weren’t really dating but we both knew we liked each other and such.. We were (and still are) really really good friends and told each other everything.. Anyways, he’s very open about his feelings (which is super hard to find in a male) and would always say he liked me and such.

Then his grandmother died and he started becoming really distant.. To the point of him not being so open. I mean I feel really bad for him and I understand but it’s really confusing.. It’s been almost two months and he’s still the same.. Sometimes there is a light of hope.. Like he’ll say something sweet or flirt but he hasn’t told me he liked me.. Like yesterday we were talking on msn (yes I know him in rl so don’t go on about online dating) and I said, “analeigh thinks kyle is stupid” (me being analeigh him being kyle obviously..) and he said “kyle thinks analeigh is sweet.” Or the the other day I told him I was hanging out with my friends later and he said “who?” and I said “kaitlyn and her brother and his friends..” then he started asking all sorts of questions like “her brother and his friends?” “how old are they?” “just you two girls?” and when I answered he said, “I see…” with this sad kind of look on his face.

Another example would be today, we were joking and I said “he’s not meant for me!” and he said “and I?” then I said “what?” then he said “what of what?” and avoided it.

He also always listen to what I say and remembers everything I tell him.. Even the little things I don’t even remember telling him..

Sorry but its just so freaking confusing. Why is he so closed up all the time?! Am I just imagining these things because I want him to like me? Is it all in my head?!?! Do you think he’s into me? Sorry, I’m losing my sanity haha.
