What is a good hotel in NYC?

My parents are coming to NYC to visit. What hotel should they stay at? They don’t like to stay at chains.

Waldorf Astoria is awesome, I stayed there some years ago. It’s in Manhattan, nice, and an unforgettable experience as it’s a world famous land mark.
