How can I lighten my hair without stripping?

My hair is med brown darker brown on the ends .I highlighted and it’s too light in the roots and some of the middle. I would like to dye it back to brown but light brown. How do I get the bottom of my hair lightened..without stripping?

Number one thing taught to us in beauty school regarding hair color: Bleach or stripping is the only way to lighten hair that has been colored dark.

End of story. Believe it, don’t fight it, go to a stylist. Your hair should hold up pretty well if you’ve never had to strip it before. You’ll probably be able to do it with bleach instead of stripper. But there’s not a huge difference really. Just make sure to spend some money on a good quality salon conditioner (I recommend Redken’s Butter Treat), condition it deeply every day for at least two weeks, sleep with baby oil on the dry ends.

You’ll be fine. Just go to a stylist. She’ll probably bleach those ends and then put a light brown shade over the whole thing to even it out.
