make a mind map… put all your ideas on a page, and then draw lines linking other ideas…

500 words is really nothing…

paragraph 1: talk about how you’re waking up. What’s the first thing you see? where are you waking up? in a room, in a field, in a forest, in a desert, what are you sleeping on? what does it feel like? is it hard? what sort of things can you smell? is it dark, is it light? what do you feel? describe the place you’re waking up in… your immediate surroundings

paragraph 2: now you get up. walk around (or crawl around, slide around, fly around, remember this is your world, what would you be in your nightmare? would you be a person? would you be an animal?) describe youself… would you be a weird creature?

paragraph 3: are you alone? are there people? are there animals? are there weird creatures? what would others be in the world of yours? would you be all alone? what does the rest of the world look like? colors, sounds, smells, feelings, is your heart racing, do you have a heart?

paragraph 4: what happens in this world? are you being chased, are there fires everywhere, are you all alone and unable to find anyone, are there snakes, rats, creatures trying to kill you, are you being ignored by everyone… this is your nightmare, what sort of situations happen in your worst nightmares?

paragraph 5: conclusion. do you wake up from this night mare world? Does it turn out this night mare world was the real world, and you can never wake up from it? are you able to transport out of this nightmare world by some sort of device, wish, or magical something, do you go crazy, get locked up in the mental hospital and wake up in this world (but this and everything is simply all in your head), etc etc… use your imagination! this exercise is supposed to be fun!

Answer #6

Likewise, those were good tips.

Paragraphing is nothing to be worried about. A new paragraph is simply the way to indicate that you are introducing a new idea. (For that reason, it is conventional to require that a paragraph consists of more than one sentence - either your idea is too short or your one sentence is too long.)

Think of it from the reader’s point of view: there are few things more discouraging than to be faced with one whole page of unbroken, continuing text with no parapgrahs - no breaks, no chances to come up for air.
