Honey…he’s an “older dog”…when they don’t want to eat…(ESPECIALLY when they don’t eat)…don’t want to move around then there is something definate going on. You must take him in to the Vet and get him an “old dog” exam…(bloodwork, urinalisys, etc).

There could be something so easy to fix for him…maybe it’s his thyroid, maybe he needs diaretics for his heart, maybe he’s hurting from arthritus…So many little things can throw an older dog off…things that are very easy to manage, with medication…

It’s time to get him checked…don’t worry about having to put him to sleep, until you know what’s going on…especially since he’s always been healthy. I’ve had many dogs live well into old age…and I can assure you, that they have good days and bad days, just like older humans…

Aw it sounds like he might need a trip to the vet, they should know what to do. Hopefully he starts eating soon or else you might have to put him to sleep. Sometimes putting your pets to sleep is the humane thing to do because it puts them out of their misery if they are very old and sick. Maybe he has arthritis and thats why he cannot get up. Take him to the vet and see what they say. My dog tinkerbell (chihuahua) sleeps all day too but when she’s up she’s pretty spunky and loud. Also I used to have a corgi who was too fat to do anything so we put up a fence and let him go do his own thing outside and sooner or later he was able to run around again. The best thing you should do is see a vet and if they say he should be put to sleep it is probably for the best, although it’s very hard and sad for you, it might be what you need to do.

You need to take him to a vet as soon as possible. You say you do not want to put him down but try not to even think about that. A simple course of antibiotics could do the trick. Try not to think negative.

It really is vital that he sees a vet soon. You are jepordizing his health by putting it off.

hey you are going to have to try to force feed that dog or take him to the vet to see maybe he has cancer that is a big sign of cancer in dogs wait will he drink any water if not add me as a friend so I can tell you what to do after that

Answer #5

take him to the vet, I know it is hard to let go, but don’t let a dog suffer at the expense of your heart breaking, I said I would never let a dog suffer and it is Quility vs Quanity. He has had a good life, he is ten. that is great. My dog was not walking very well and would fall down, she lost about 30 lbs in one year, she was still with us Mentally but not physically, I choose to end her life on 1-2-09, yes it hurt like h*ll but I did the right thing, Dogs do not show pain, that is a sign of weakness in a pack. they are not enginered the same way we are, We are big fat babies when it comes to being sick

This is what I did and I work at the hospital, I told the doctor to come in and do the exam and run blood work if we need to. And for her to give me her most honest opinion and don’t beat around the bush, After a good physical exam she looked at me and said that “it is time” I sat there and listened to my dog cry when the doctor just tried to flex her legs and mouth, Yes it broke my heart, but it would have broken my heart more to bring her back home and watch her slowly get even worse, instead I held her and watched her fall asleep and not feel a thing and never woke up. I am ok with that. Be strong and give your dog the treatment it deserves, Good luck and stay strong.
