your hair just has to be long enough… if its not long enough it will come loose… and I used to braid this white boy hair and he had this stuff like gel/wax stuff that was just like holding gel and it worked good with keepin everything in place…

yes it will, I suggest not putting conditioner in your hair before you do it and use some mouse to help the hair from slipping out
