Heart nurnur?

I have a doctor’s appoinment monday to get a heart murmur checked out.

But I have a few questions for anyone who’s ever had one.

  1. What kind of things does the doctor do?
  2. Does a family history of heart disease make me at more risk of it being harmful?

Maybe no one knows these things. But it’s worth a try asking.

I’ve got a heart murmur, along with a few other problems. Generally, you’re given an ECG - sometimes heart murmurs aren’t picked up on them though, just depends how bad it is. Also there’s different types. Mine’s a pansystolic, which means it’s there all the time and I’ll never get rid of it, but I think there’s ones that come and go.

A family history of heart disease makes it more likely that something caused the heart murmur. Again I can only go off my own experiences. I’ve got Marfan Syndrome and that’s what caused mine, because it means two of my valves leak and one is pretty much giving up, so my heart has to skip beats to compensate.

I find singing helps because particularly if you have any problem with the mitral valve, it aids in correct posture and breathing and can make a world of difference.

Don’t worry about it though, most heart murmurs are pretty innocent, asymptomatic ones, so you should be okay. Let me know how you go on!

xx
