Do headaches occur from swelling of the brain?

When you get a headache, does it mean that your brain is swelling? Oww I hate headaches :’(

Answer #1

Yes. Simple question to answer. A headache is swelling of the brain in a specific area. Like the frontal lobe hurting could be from looking at the sun.

Answer #2

Generally, I would say no. If your brain is swelling, you have a pretty serious issue, as there is no room in your skull to allow your brain to swell. Therefore, if it is swelling, you have a serious medical condition that could result in severe brain damage. So if you are talking about the common types of headaches, the answer is no. Its unclear exactly what causes most types of headaches, but its possible its to do with blood vessel dilation activating pain receptors. The brain itself doesnt actually detect pain at all, but the meninges (the tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord) do, as do the blood vessels, cranial nerves and the muscles of the head and neck. Brain swelling can cause headaches (as can tumours) but these are not the most common causes.

Answer #3

Your frontal lobe doesnt feel anything. No part of your brain does. Headache pain is felt by surrounding structures, and its not necessarily because the brain is swollen. And I dont get the sun thing at all….
