Hamster trouble...

Okk all, please give me some advice here…I have (had) two dwarf hamsters one male and female..they were together since they were just little and have had one liter together. The male killed two of the babies so I took out the other two as soon as I could and they are fine in another cage. The male and female were fine until last night I found the female dead and the male had eaten off the female. I have no reason to think she was sick and died, but that he killed her. Dwarfs are supposedly community animals and I didnt think he would do this. Does anyone know anything extensive about hamsters to know what may have happened besides I have a phycho killer hamster who eats his prey? I just dont understand it after all the time they have been together and have adapted. My nephew got one of the hamsters from the same liter that are adults now and since mine no longer has a companion I was wondering about giving him this male, I believe his is a male too, but I dont want to give him this one if it is going to kill his or vice versa. What do you all think? From what I have researched and read, Dwarfs are community animals and dont like being alone, but geeez…why is he killing the others? And so sparatically.

When the girl was pregnant you should have taken the boy out and put him in a sepret cage because he will kill the mother and the babys. I dont know why they do it im guessing there is just something up with the hormones but make sure next time you have a girl and a guy together to seperste them when the girl is pregnant and till the babys are old enough to be put in a seperate cage than there mother

Well I have a Robovski girl. She’s named Fifi and she’s not a year old yet! :) ANYWAY, forget about that and let’s get on with your case. If hamsters have just had a litter, you should not touch the babies until about 3-6 months. Not sure, but you shouldn’t touch them because if you get your smell on them, the female will eat them because they don’t smell how they should.

Also, hamsters who have babies and think they are handicaped (disabled) will eat them. Iknow, it’s sad.

LOL thats what I am thinking…I dont know what the deal is…a mystery to me…he is destined to stay alone because I dont dare risk putting another hamster with him…would maybe a male be better? I dont know…
