How can I make a corset?

Corsets tend to have panels which are sewn together to create the shape. Have a look at corsets in shops to try and find the general structure, and go to a fabric store and buy a pattern if you can afford to, as it will make sure you have guidelines to follow. Get some eyelets and black ribbon. Black lace and ribbon can help you make this look really good. Insert the eyelets in two vertical rows on the back and thread the ribbon between them, criss-crossing it. To do this and not actually have it is the way your corset does up, you will just need to cut 2 flaps the length of the corset and sew them on the centre of the back, about a long ruler’s width apart. These are what you should inser the eyelets into.

Sew some black ribbon down the seams you create for the panels, and either sew a lace fabric over the top, so you can just see the blue velvet underneath, or else just use some lace trim around the top. A v shaped bottom to the corset will generally help make it look a little more gothic.
