H1N1 vaccine

Should my borthers and my sister and me get the H1N1 vaccine

Answer #1

It is strongly recommended that those at risk should get the vaccine (immunocompromised people, pregnant women, those with chronic disease such as asthma, cystic fibrosis etc . .). These patients are at serious risk from H1N1 and thus for them the benefit of the vaccine outweighs the risk.

For others who are at less risk - there is no evidence so far to say it is safe. However it is important to say there is also NO evidence so far to say it is unsafe. You must make your own decision about whether to get it or not as no logical person will make the decision for you, considering the lack of evidence. When looking it up, please get your information from good quality sources - I.e. asking about it here on this forum is not the way to get informed on such a serious topic! Have a look at the CDC website, it contains very good, up to date information.

The previous poster asked how the ‘coverment’ came up with the vaccine. Inasnwer to this - no government came up with the H1N1 vaccines, they were developed by a number of different international companies (GSK, Novartis, Baxter and others). All the vaccines are based upon the strain of H1N1 influenza A virus of swine origin identified in California in 2009.

no. its not that bad. I would let people who were most at risk get it. I’ve had it, just getting rid now, cough is still there though. it just feels like ordinary flu, and you only feel really poorly for 3-4 days and then you seem to get better in leaps and bounds.

Answer #3

No, not in my opinion. I would wait until a lot of other people has gotten it before. Also the H1N1 virus is just as dangerous as the normal flu virus, so if you aren’t getting the normal vaccine why get the other one?
