Is going to the gynocologist scary?

If your doctor tells you to go, then you have to go. This is for your health. I was nervous the first time I went when I was 14, because of abnormal periods. These doctors see so many women a day that you do not need to be embarassed about your’s. They have seen it all- shaved, unshaved, partially shaved. So, just do your normal routine, and take a shower before you go. Take a friend if you will feel more comfortable, I have done that a few times. It’s not a scary experience. Your gyno will talk to you about your problem, he/she will ask you questions about your history with your period, and also possibly your family history. If the doctor decides to do an exam, he/she will leave the room and have you take your clothes off and sit on the table/bed. You will cover up with a paper sheet. Then he/she will have you lay down, spread your knees apart, and then do the exam. It isn’t bad. It is over so quickly. I just lay back, close my eyes and think about something else. If you take a friend, he/she can hold your hand (even though it’s not a painful exam). It helps to have a friend’s support. When the doctor is done (after about 2 minutes or less), he/she may also do a breast exam which takes about 30 seconds. So total time for the exam: under 5 minutes. Then that part is over. He/she will leave the room again, you will get dressed, then he/she will come back and talk to you. It’s not even as bad as it seems. Once it’s over with and once you know what is going on with your body then you will feel glad that you went. No one likes to have the exam done, but it is a necessity for all women.
