How can a guy maintain blonde roots easily and safely?

My natural hair color is medium brown, and it’s been going prematurely gray for several months now. I decided to dye it blonde. I bleached it then dyed it an extra light ash blonde color. I loved the color. After two weeks, though, my roots were showing really badly. (My hair grows very fast.) I was scared to bleach it again, so I dyed the roots a light blonde color instead. Again, I was happy with the results. That was a week ago, and my roots are already showing again, very noticeably. Is there a safe way to touch up my roots one a week, or do I just need to forget about it and go back to having brown hair? Or should I go for a dark blonde color, so my roots won’t be so noticeable? Please help. By the way, my hair is short.

As someone who started premature greying since 17 years old, I share your pain.

I’m not really that old and my hair is almost completely white now. A few years ago I tried to go the color route and it looked great for a few days – until my hair started growing back again and the roots looked horrible.

Well, guess what, I decided to just live with it, and its something that I have not regretted since. I am who I am, and premature gray happens to some people. Not a whole lot that can be done with it. People actually tell me they like it. It adds the whole “distinguished” mature element to your persona, even though you’re young underneath.

What’s worked well for me is keeping it really short (not entirely shorn), and that means regular hair cuts since my hair grows fast and wild.

At least its better than going prematurely bald :-)
