Guitar Freak

Im interested in learning to play guitar. Does anyone know how I should get started? And do I have to learn to play acoustic before electric or can it be in any order? Thanx!!!

Answer #1

well it is a good idea to have a teacher from the start cause that way they can show you the little things you might not be able to understand on your own.but it’s your choice of course

Answer #2

Sooo, would a book help me out in the basics or would I need to go rite out and get a teacher first thing? I learned most of what I know about other things from books, so I was wondering if that would be a way to learn it? Im not talking about learning everything I need to know (Im aware that I’ll have to get a teacher at some point in time) but is one needed in the very beggining?

you don’t have to play acoustic first if you don’t want to.if you want you can play electric first.as far as getting started maybe check around your area to see if there is anybody who offers guitar lessons

Answer #4

there isn’t any rule abt which one you play first, but to get started you obviously need a guitar and then you need to learn the basic chords an chord progressions an eventually you’ll be able to play songs. The first song I learned was Come as you are by Nirvana. You’ll need to check aroud for places that offer lessons, luckily I’ve never had to go out and pay for lessons and get there on time etc. etc. b/c my father is my teacher so I always have my teacher around not evryone has that

Acoustic is often recommended for beginners because it will build up strength, is less forgiving to poor form than electric, and is easier for lessons (you don’t have to drag a bunch of electronics around or hook them up).

But if your goal is electric, then you can just start there.

Start by learning the C major scale and playing some basic single note at a time songs. Then start learning open chords and barr chords. Find easy songs to play simple chords that sound good (like Outside by Stained for example) Then learn at least a couple of blues scales and you be jammin.
