You do understand, jimahl…that a small business that grosses $250,000 annually is a VERY small business?? More taxes will literally pull them to the dirt…

“He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. “

Capital gains is precisely what “dividend taxes” are… the elderly, and anybody with a 401K or other retirement plan (those of us in the middle class), would have to pull that money out, and use a bank to save instead. These retirement funds are pretty much the nuts and bolts of the Stock Exchanges…and if not a total collapse of the stock market, it’d be damn close…I don’t think that’s a “promise” Obama can keep. The world’s economy is too intertwined to let the American stock market die out.

Also…”after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain’s plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.”

What the hell is “after-tax” taxes??…is that a typo?? Ya get your check as usual, with the taxes taken out…and at the end of the year, pay the “after tax” taxes???

I want somebody to define “middle class”…If I make $38,000 gross a year, is THAT middle class? The Democrats call it RICH …(tho the ones who do, couldn’t buy a car with my annul rate of pay)…I just don’t get it.

I think Palin is the most refreshing person I’ve seen on the political front in all the years I’ve been voting…It helps in this election, since she’s the only real Republican running.

I like the fact that they are going to support the “reimportation” (and I am quoting) of medication to help drive down health costs. Do we all know what that is? Having worked in medicine for over 30 years (sigh, I’m old) it means that they will make it easy and legit for a pharmacy to sell generic and label drugs manufactured in another country. The largest suppliers are Mexico and China. The FDA has been fighting to keep these drugs out of our country because the majority are not quality tested. Many, many were found to contain less active ingredients than listed and caused major problems for the patients who were unaware they were taking them. We know from the dog food horror that China does not always supply the pest products. And this is just one way McCain plans on helping the current healthcare crisis.

Okay… so I watched some of it but then got annoyed of clapping after every sentence.

Anyways - she sounds like a complete scam, she’s just telling people what they want to hear. I feel no emotions coming from her speech, she’s bogus. Also she’s so full of herself, for example; she spends 5+ minutes talking about her personal family, mentions children with special needs for about 30 seconds, then goes back to talking about her family again. I’ve noticed a lot of speeches from Obama you can feel they are straight from his heart, I cant say this about this speech… not even the smallest bit. She just has a way with words that catches people.

Just my opinion, and I respect others so I will not argue with anyone about this. I don’t bother with what people think of my thoughts, everyone has the right to their opinion. :)

FROM THE FUTURE

I liked her speech but sadly during the campaigning she didnt live up to my expectations

“You do understand, jimahl…that a small business that grosses $250,000 annually is a VERY small business?? More taxes will literally pull them to the dirt…”

Yes, I do. I run a small business. I know. But they were not talking about gross reciepts. They are taling about net income. If my small company, that grosses about 2.5 million could possibly net 250,000 in income every year, we would be glad to pay taxes on it. We come no where near that. In fact we very rarely show a net profit. That is how most small businesses run.

“Capital gains is precisely what ‘dividend taxes’ are… the elderly, and anybody with a 401K or other retirement plan (those of us in the middle class), would have to pull that money out, and use a bank to save instead. These retirement funds are pretty much the nuts and bolts of the Stock Exchanges…and if not a total collapse of the stock market, it’d be damn close…I don’t think that’s a ‘promise’ Obama can keep. The world’s economy is too intertwined to let the American stock market die out.”

What part of “on the wealthiest” don’t you understand? Please keep up if you want to debate. This is not taxes that will affect the middle class. So your predictions of gloom and doom are unfounded.

“Also…’after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain’s plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.’

What the hell is ‘after-tax’ taxes??…is that a typo?? Ya get your check as usual, with the taxes taken out…and at the end of the year, pay the ‘after tax’ taxes???”

Are you having trouble reading. It says after-tax INCOME. According to Obama’s tax plan, middle income taxpayers will see a 5% increase in the income, in other words, they will be paying less taxes, and taking home 5% more than they used. to. McCain’s plan would only see a 3% increase. So he want the middles class to pay more than Obama does. Because McCain is not willing to raise taxes on the wealthiest americans, and Obama is.

“I want somebody to define ‘middle class’…If I make $38,000 gross a year, is THAT middle class? The Democrats call it RICH …(tho the ones who do, couldn’t buy a car with my annul rate of pay)…I just don’t get it. “

I would say 38K is on the low end of middle class, but the range of income that constitutes the middle class fluctuates by region. Believe me, you are not going to see an increase in taxes under Obama.

On average, middle clas income breaks out like this:

Working class: 16k - 35k Lower middle class: 35k - 75k Upper middile class: 75k - 150k or more

Although 150k in new york is doing just ok, 150k in Iowa you would be doing very, very well.

Only 1% of people make over 500k. Those are the people that will be paying more. Not everyone, and certainly not you.

“I think Palin is the most refreshing person I’ve seen on the political front in all the years I’ve been voting…It helps in this election, since she’s the only real Republican running.”

She is a good speaker, but an empty suit.

So far the RNC has been as dull as watching paint dry. Same old rhetoric over and over. I forced myself to watch governor Palin’s speech because it is historic but the Republican party seems entirely devoid of ideas. They keep pusing the same disastrous policies that got us in the fix we are in.

Answer #9

The speech was good as speeches go, but lacking anything about:

  • The economy
  • Mortgage situation
  • Shifting to alternative energy

In fact, really nothing about how to move the country forward. If you like red meat sound bites, then the speech was for you. But there were no plans, no future for the country and for us. Watch it again and see what I mean.

Answer #10

I didn’t watch it - but with all this talk about Palin on here tonight… I want to see it. I’m not American but I like to keep updated with things like this so I’m educated about things going on even in countries I don’t live it. If you know where I can watch this speech online, please FunMail the link to me. :) Good luck Americans ♥

edit Looks like we posted at the same time, I’m going to go watch it.

Answer #11

She gives me inspiration that integrety and politics might be able to mix…now that WOULD be change…

The commentators appeared to think that “Yeah, well…wait till she has to speak off the cuff, at press conferences or the debates”…but I think she’ll hold her own without a problem. Too bad she won’t be able to debate Obama…THAT would be interesting to see.

Answer #13

I watch Palin’s speech, it was fantastic! I loved it. At least she wasn’t preaching like Obama he will lose. Let’s hope he loses. She will do so much for this country that she isn’t looking for ridicule from the media, she wants to serve this country not get negative opinions from the media and sources that attack her. She also is going to advocate for people with special needs. I do have a disability which is a visual impairment and been blind since birth. I know that she’ll come up with ideas for the blind and other people with disabilities. She’ll keep taxes low, she’s pro life which I love, she’s just a wonderful woman. In fact, one of my friends from college knows her. She’s a family friend to his family. Her family seems to be well behaved which she mentioned that we all have our ups and downs in families. I’m so glad she didn’t abort her Down Syndrom baby. He is capable of learning things. He’ll have to go through special classes once he’s old enough to go to school. Again, I thought the speech was fantastic. She’s right on about everyone. To liberals who’ll be reading this answer, you won’t stop me from giving my opinion. And deffenately, don’t stop amblessed from posting questions that you think are lies. I know one person considers us coolaid drinkers. You liberals can vote for your candidate, while people like amblessed and myself, and other christian conservatives will continue to fight for a MCaine/Palin presidency.

“Thought it was great !! “

What a surprise…

“made some great / hit the nail on the head, factual points”

You mean like these:

PALIN: ‘I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.’

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a ‘bridge to nowhere.’

PALIN: ‘There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate.’

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: ‘The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars.’

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama’s plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain’s plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

“- refreshing to have a strong, unafraid, accomplished, solid and uncompromising in values woman running for office - the feminism movement finally has a woman within reach of such a prominent position - after all their stated goal is ‘advancing women’ - great job, great candidate !! “

She is a disgrace, and any women who votes for her is voting against their own self-interests.

Answer #15

I, for one, think that Gov. Palin has an amazing shot at this. Her and McCain are going to turn this election upsidedown, and I dont think it’s going to be a bad thing. Something I really liked abotu last nights speech was Palin mentioned that when Obama speaks about victory, he only mentions it for his campaign and not what is going on with our country. I also find it great that she is supportive of special needs children(seeing as se has one). Being the older sister of a special needs child, that really hit close to my heart. I also love that she is standing behind her daughter 100% during this pregnancy. I am pro-life, and so I am really glad to see that.

I still dont know who I am voting for, but so far McCain/Palin is swaying my vote.

Answer #16

i hope you do not take offense,         To that that comes hereafter;         ’Tis only that it’s my two-cents,         Not one penny more thereafter. §;o)       For those who didn’t watch it or who want to see it again or read it, check out the link below:
