Was my teacher discriminatory?

OK your probably thinking ‘huh?’ so I’ll explain briefly.

During my Latin lesson today my class were given back the books which had been taken in by the teacher to be marked the previous lesson. I remembered giving in my book, but the teacher dissagreed with me and insisted he was right. It is a known fact that he has lost many books in the past and never admits to it. So I stood up for myself after he was basically accusing me of being a liar.

My exact words were: ‘Oh yes sir, I’m just making this up to get attention beacuse I’m that demented.

His reply was this…prepare yourself…here it goes: The fact that you’re some kind of retro goth may indicate that you sanity is questionable. Then followed by ‘I’m only joking’

How discriminating is that? If he were to comment about race, religion or sexuality in that manner he would be in deep trouble. I’m concemplating going to our deputy head to complain. Do you think I should? Am I justified to do so?! Or am I going a bit OTT.

I just think its wrong. Who agrees with me?

Let me know,

Helen. xxx.

The words on paper sound terrible, but his intentions can only be determined through his tone of voice. I used to have teachers joke with me like that. Maybe he really was just joking. You should talk to him and tell him that you are sensitive to those kind of comments and he hurt your feelings. If he is any kind of professional, those comments will stop and you will get an apology.

Answer #3

now I think that is messed up you should freely do and dress how you choose it is still being discriminatory because it is pretty much saying o k because you are always dresses in black or goth like you have a messed up life your crazy and you cut yourself and you play a weegie bored for fun ha ha it is probably spelled wrong but still it is still e form of being discriminative

now taking it to the deputy person on campus should be an option because it is wrong just be sure if possible you have people behind you with it

Answer #4

Wow that’s pretty * up! I would have definitely brought that to someone appointed over him. Yes I believe he did in fact was discriminating you but I can not question his integrity not knowing the man himself. I would still report him and bring your parents into the picture because then you won’t be some crazy goth kid or whatever. Also bringing your parents also means that you are serious.

Answer #5

I would but listen if you decide to stand up and say something make sure you have your facts staright and make sure you stay clam if you start yelling or acting irrationally they will just dismiss you but if you are calm and show them how obvious that what he is doing is a hate crime thats not right

Answer #6

Well, it was definitely uncalled for. I think you should report it, because his job is to teach, not judge.

Answer #7

yup thats was totally uncalled for :(

Answer #8
