What are some good speed exercises for guitar?

I want to get faster.

Answer #1

Tip #1: Do finger exercises each day. As it is with any learned skill, practice makes perfect. Warm up your fingers by practicing scales or patterns that cause your fingers stretch, even before you move on to exercises specially designed to improve your speed as a guitarist.

Tip #2: Strength will lead you to the speed. A good guitar speed exercise should strengthen your fingers with repetition at the same time that it trains them to move more quickly. Think of Bruce Lee. Some of the reasons that he was such a great fighter was because of both his speed and strength. But without his strength, however fast he might have naturally been, his speed as a fighter would have been futile. It’s just the same idea with guitar. Without proper training and finger-strengthening, you cannot expect to make great progress at becoming a fast guitar player.

Tip #3: Train both of your hands. Playing guitar is done,of course, with two hands. Therefore, it only makes sense to train both hands to play with acceleration and accuracy. Learning how to use and hold a pick effectively when playing fast guitar songs is equally as important as being able to move around the fret board quickly with your left hand. Additionally, the types of exercises you need to do with your left and right hands are different, since each hand is used in a variety of different ways when playing the guitar.

Tip #4: Time yourself while playing. A great way to encourage yourself to become a faster guitarist is to record your progress and try to outdo your own success everyday. Time yourself while playing a chromatic scale. Write down how long it took you to perform, and try to beat your speed the next day. With the correct guitar speed exercises, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to beat your own record again and again.

Tip #5: Pay attention to the quality of sound. In all honestly, a lot of guitarists can play fast. Unfortunately, not every fast guitarist can play both quickly and with precision. It’s quite important that you don’t sacrifice sound quality by playing faster than you feel comfortable with. Faster guitar parts are only pleasing to the ear when they are accurate, controlled, and dynamic. Be sure to maintain and develop your skills so that you become not only a fast guitarist, but a guitarist with an ear for sound quality. There are loads of guitar speed exercises, but not all of them are necessarily effective.

Hope that helps ღ Sorry if it didn’t
