Can someone give me tips on dying my hair?

So I’ve never dyed my hair before so i’m a rookie to this. My natural hair color is a dark-brownish black color… and I want it a pinkish-red tone, NOT orange. Right now I have a pretty good grade of hair and i’ve been taking good care of it. So i hear that when going from a color so dark to light you have to strip all of color first. The problem is I dont really want to bleach it 2 or 3 times(i heard thats the least amount of times i can, before dying) because it really damamges your hair bad. I want to start off with a semi-permanent dye to decide on a decent color for me. Also i dont want to only end up dying the roots aand have the rest off my hair still black. Can someone help me with this? Tips on what types of dye to use and what i should do before/after?

Dye it a colour that stands out against your hair colour. :3 Try a deep brick red or plain red :D you’ll be happy with results ^_^

Our go with a bright brown :) you can’t go wrong with the choice you make :D Enjoy!

to get the pinkish red you should go to sallys beauty supply they have a couple different shades to choose from and there are some dying kits that have bleach mixed in (works for me) and for the damage get a good conditioner made for damaged hair there was also a really bright red that i bought from walmart that would look good on you but its really long lasting and hard to get rid of if you dont like it ..i cant remember the name of it though

When going lighter from a dark tone, you’re supposed to go 2 shades lighter every 3-4 weeks… Especially if you bleach it to that point. If you do it right, your hair will still look okay during this phase, just be careful to follow the directions on your bleaching kit. I would recommend the brand Beyond the Zone for both semi-permanent dye and a bleaching kit; I used that when my hair was bubblegum pink and loved it. Good luck and Funmail me if you have any questions, I work at a salon so I know about hair :)

Answer #6

Put Vaseline along your hairline all the way around so it doesn’t stain your head. :)

The bleach won’t damage your hair if you use conditioner after. You kinda NEED to use a blonde hair lightener, otherwise the colour you want, won’t take, properly. It’s basically a similar thing to why we draw on white paper. A white base shows colour at it’s best.
