German Shepherd:

Often used as working dogs, German Shepherds are direct and fearless, and alert. Bold, cheerful, obedient and eager to learn. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage. Calmly confident, but not hostile. Serious and highly intelligent.

They have a high learning ability. German Shepherds love to be close to their families, but can be wary of strangers. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when they feel it is necessary. And is a popular family companion.

However, German Shepherds are stronger breed of dog, so they can do more damage if they develop agression or behavioural issues, so they are better for experienced owners who have experience in taking the role of pack leader.

And they do need to be taken on two 1 hour walks a day, exercise is needed, otherwise, like every other breed of dog, will become fustrated and fustration can lead to behavioural problems.

This breed sheds bits of hair constantly and is a seasonally heavy shedder. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion.

German shepherds are eager learners, and learn quickly which is why they are used a lot by the police force.

American bulldog:

The American Bulldog is loyal, reliable, brave and determined. Not a hostile dog. Alert and self-confident, this breed genuinely loves children. It is known for its acts of heroism towards its master.

They have strong protective instincts, and need a firm, confident, consistent pack leader. Well-socialize and obedience train them at an early age, to prevent them from becoming reserved with strangers. Without that strong minded pack leader who can tell the dog what is expected of them, they may be aggressive with other dogs.

They need to be around people and know their place in their pack to be truly happy. This breed tends to drool and slobber.

Without enough daily mental and physical exercise they will become high strung and may become hard to handle, like any other breed of dog.

This breed should be taken on long daily walks to prevent building up fustration which can lead to behavioural problems such as separation anxiety, agression, anxiousness etc.

The short, harsh coat is easy to groom. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder.

This breed of dog is also an intelligant dog.

Hope this helps =]

German Shepherds…to us that have them, are also known as “German Shedders”…GSD’s shed just about more than any other breed…all year, with once a year where they literally “blow their coats”…

German Sheperds make good watch dogs, as they are very reactive (they bark)…tho you have to look from certain lines to get a reliable “guard dog”. Most people don’t need a “guard dog” per se…a watch dog, who looks intimidating is good enough. Trained guard dogs need to be handled by people who know a LOT about dogs…untrained guard dogs are like carrying a loaded gun with the hammer cocked…somebody’s going to get hurt.

German shepards tend to shed a lot and can have hip problems, and I’ve also known gs to be more agressive, maybe not putting up with children pulling on them as well but thats not for sure. Training a gs should be fairly easy though. I would go with the American Bulldog, they are really good w/children and make excellent guard dogs, great family pet. They do need some extra training though because they are so strong, hope that helps

the greman for 1,2,3,4. They may shed but they’ll love you forever and protect you for as long as they can.

Answer #5

American bulldog, great guard dog, family dog, and training will vary per breed but I love my babies and wouldnt trade them

Answer #6

German Shepherds are a great breed though in the US the gene pool is too small so inbreeding is a problem I’m not familiar with American bulldogs but looking them up they do look like an impressive dog.

My favorite big dog is the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Ridgebacks are big hounds originally bred to hunt lions. All the ones I met were very sweet. They are extremely loyal and protective of their family. Ridgebacks can be difficult to train if their owner is inconsistent.

I highly recommend the German Shepherd Dog. I have one and he is by far the best dog I’ve ever had. GSDs are extremely smart and eager to learn. They will protect you and your family with their life. But they are very big, my 6-month-old is already 60 lbs.
