Can a fungal infection on a fingernail go away by itself?

I’ve had one on my index fiŋger for over a year, it’s not a very severe one but it simply won’t go away. I’ve gone to my doctors, he gave me penlac, it’s an anti-biotic nail polish. But I’ve b een using it for over half a year and it won’t go away still. I’ve also tried the vinegar treatment which has done nothing as well.

Also, I wanted to paint my nails. Would using nail polish make it worst?

Answer #1

Fungal infections tend to get worse if left untreated. Just get yourself some Vick’s vaporub and apply it every night before bed … it tends to work better than anything the doctors give out.

Answer #2

THANK YOU! Would it still work even though it’s been a year? Or should I just go back for anti biotics.

Answer #3

It should still work … if you’ve been using the other stuff, you’ve been more or less been keeping it from getting worse, but not actually getting rid of it.

Answer #4

I had nail fungus for several years. I tried this and that including topical ointment and even nail removal by a doctor. None of it worked. However, there is a prescription drug you can take. I took it and everything got better. No problems since.

left untreated it will spread , that is what happened in my case , I am using Lamisil Antifungal , you check with your Doc , there are few more .
