Fun xmas decorating ideas for the inside of the house?

I’m looking for some fun xmas decorating ideas for the inside of the house? Here’s what we’re doing so far:

  1. Ceramic snowman on a shelf
  2. Stockings on the mantle with kids pictures
  3. Christmas tree & decorations, including a train that circles the tree :)
  4. Snowflake star shaped lights to string around a door or other part of the house

Any other ideas? What’s a fun way you’re decorating the house for xmas this year?

This year I am decking out my dining room table with a candy cane motiff. I got the idea from Better Home and Garden’s Christmas Ideas 2006 magazine. My chairs are going to have back covers that are santa hats from Oriental Trading (http://orientaltrading.com/application?namespace=browse&origin=catalogProducts.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&demandPrefix=12&sku=4/2543&prodCatId=377624&mode=Browsing&erec=3&Ne=19&sp=true&Ntk=all&Ntx=mode%252bmatchallpartial&cm_re=TOP-_-HD-_-HD&N=377624%2B4294967278&tabId=Holidays&sd=TRICOT+SANTA+CHAIR+COVERS+%284PC%29) So it will be an all red and white theme.

My living room is going to be mostly sparkles! I have sparkley stockings and a gold sparkley candle center piece for my coffee table. And I made a miniature tree that has a small string of white lights and golden ornaments. Then of course sparkley garland and lights will be around the doorway. Gold bells will be on the TV.

Another good holiday magazine is Holiday Crafts from better homes and garden. I bought a ton of holiday magazines but only the better homes and garden magazines have impressed me.

*Tie generous ribbons to chair backs, candlesticks, picks in plants, wreaths, garlands, basket handles, drapery tie-backs, stair railings, and doorknobs.

*Arrange lots of candles on the dining table and dine by candlelight, even if you’re just having leftovers.

*Put a wreath or swag on every door you have. Of course, start with the front door to welcome guests.

*Whenever you’re home, turn on a CD or the radio and listen to Christmas music.

*Tie some sleigh bells onto the front door, and listen to the cheery welcome.

*When you go into your children’s room in the morning, wake them with jingling bells or a jolly “ho, ho, ho”.

*Make a wreath with candies tied on. Have a small scissors handy to cut off candies for guests.

*Use leftover greens from your Christmas tree to make a few quick arrangements in simple bowls.

*Gather sprigs of holiday greens together with a bow and hang them from the inside of your windows.

*Sprinkle artificial snow across your tabletop or buffet or on house plants.

*Place shiny ornaments in a clear glass bowl or vase.

*Embellish indoor plants or trees with shiny ornaments.

I’m a sucker for Christmas lights, so a few years ago i bought a bunch of packages of garland and lights, i wound the lights around the garland and i hang it around the top of the living room. I also put garland over all the ddoorways with a red ribbon over the top 2 corners.
