FTP Sites

I have been trying to upload data on to an ftp site and it keeps timing out. I have checked the site and it is working correctly. I am using a laptop with wireless connection. I have tried other Ftp sites and they seem to work(other people have trouble download from these sites that is why I cant use it all the time) What are some of the possible causes for my problem?
