Can you freeze watermelon?

If so, what can you used the frozen watermelon for when cooking or baking?

I had a discussion on watermelons today, but I wasn’t really sure about this one. I’m assuming freezing watermelon is a huge no-no. If anyone can tell me for sure, though, I’d appreciate it a lot!

I freeze watermelon and just eat it as a nice cold treat. You can cut it up into squares and use it as ice cubes in a tropical drink. Freeze it and use it to make daiquiris, margaritas, slushies, or smoothies later on also.

Yes, you can freeze watermelon. I would suggest cutting the watermelon into 1”x1” chunks, get as much seed out as you can, put it in a freezer safe container, and freeze.

The only thing is, once you thaw it out…the consistency and taste will probably be a bit different.

Ohh, thank you. I had no idea. I just assumed that it would go all mushy. xD

If you’ve put it in smoothies personally, do you have any good recipes for it? I absolutely love making smoothies. Also, do you know how long watermelon can stay frozen for before it has to go?

You can freeze it. We put ours in the pool to keep it fresh. But freezing can be nice if you put in a drink or something. Eating it frozen just gives you brainfreeze.
