How do you build free standing stairs

All I joined this site for was to know if anyone knows how to build free standing stairs?

Answer #1

What size and shape of staircase are you thinking of building? There are books out there but they lack the details for a homeowner to actually build it. Also, some cities and counties require engineering which can be a pain because I have yet to find one that understands a curved freestanding design. However, engineers will sign off on designs once you direct them to the proper sources for the calculations.

Hi, I’d suggest buying or checking out this book:

Plan It, Dig It, Build It! By David Sauter

It has plans in there for a free-standing staircase. There’s no way we could provide you the detailed plans and photos required for something so complicated.

Google Books offers a preview of this book online, where it shows you the chapter of freestanding staircases.

Answer #3

I do. I assume you mean a spiral or raduis stairs but I can build both as well as free standing stairs without any raduis granted they be adjacent a wall.
