how can i fix my stereo and what are the pros and cons of wiring speakers in series?

the stereo wont play out of the output speaker lines, it only plays out the headphone port, i have it running through a guitar amp from that and then to speakers?

It’s difficult to give much advice here without seeing your stereo equipment. In most of the amplifiers I have seen over many years, the headphone output is connected across the output of the power amplifiers (with resistors to reduce the level to the headphones: cheap!) so this may indicate that the power amplifiers are working satisfactorily. If your amplifier has a seperate headphone amplifier, then the power amplifiers may be faulty (unlikely for both to be faulty at the same time.)

It is not a good idea to wire speakers in series unless you know hat you are doing. You will never know what Impedance will be presented to the Amplifier. In the worst case, the final Impedance could be a low 2 ohms, or lower–very close to a short-circuit. To drive such a low Impedance requires an amplifier with a very beefy power supply indeed and I doubt your amplifier has such a supply.
