. In my opinion, the so-called “Golden Ratio” is an erroneous concept. I remember it being used, while I was a student, to explain why the 4:3 aspect ratio had been chosen, as some sort of obvious necessity, for television displays (and later in the design of early computer monitors). . It was effectively stated, as a matter of intrinsic fact, that humans naturally preferred things that conformed to this mysterious “Golden Ratio”.
. I never felt comfortable with the argument but just assumed that that was because I was an oddball - somehow displaced from the statistical norm. . How good it made me feel when the 16:9 “widescreen” aspect ratios started to gain popularity and I realized that all the woffle about the significance of the “Golden Ratio” was nothing more than a load of bollocks. . Forget about the “Golden Ratio” - it has no more relevance than the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, or the gibberish that people spew out about “Astrological Constellations”; “Karma”; “Zen”; or “Yin-Yang” complementary symmetries. .
