Hi!

I don’t go there, in person or online, but I found some reviews by students:

FIDM has helped me so much. Before I attended I was a girl who enjoyed drawing and painting. Now a year and a half after graduating I am a graphic designer with disney under my belt for my resume and the titles of listed above. What I learned in the short years I was there is truly amazing. To see myself transform into the design professional I knew I always could be is truly awesome. I am so respecting now within the industry it’s surreal. To high school and college students thinking about going to FIDM i would tell them if you got the talent and you got the heart for what you do FIDM will definately help you get to where you want to go. They love people that “want it,” and honestly it is hard to FIDM people like that anywhere. Be an over achiever and just go for it, do more work than is asked of you and really stand out. If you impress you teachers, that’s a good thing. Being a teacher’s pet helps, swallow your pride and do the damn thing. Good luck in your career.

i would say FIDM is the perfect place to help someone who really wants to work hard to be whatever it is they are majoring in. Networking is constantly reminded and is necessary to “be somebody.” FIDM has far too many connects to list, they won’t tell you all of them unless you ask and are specific. Don’t go if you think its a cakewalk, the classes may be a tad on the easy side, but its the career you want in the end that matters so you’d better learn all you can, especially for the $40,000 your paying to attend. Don’t waste your money pursuing a design career if your not talented either. If you don’t have the talent & passion for what you want to get into, its gonna be a sob story when you can’t get a job in the industry after you graduate. I had a lot of good friends at FIDM that were crappy designers and are still struggling and even some that ending up doing something completely different, like nursing and community service.

The first one gave it a positive, and the second gave it a neutral. The main complaint I see from students is that it is expensive.

Hope that helps.

Hi!

I have heard great things about the online program at FIDM from my friend who went through the program as a merchandising marketing major.

She says that many of the classes within the programs at FIDM are available online and the bachelors in business management program will soon join the program.

Despite what many students believe about online classes, she says that the students who go through the e-learning program at FIDM have to be self-motivated and diligent in completing the weekly assignments.

She also raved about the activities, saying they were very helpful and fun and tied in well with the topics. For product development majors, she said that one activity her friend enjoyed was going through the entire product life cycle with an imaginary product and then putting everything together through a marketing project, producing it and sourcing it via the internet.

The programs are also taught by the same instructors that teach at FIDM so it’s like getting the same experience in the classroom while you’re at home. Many students also take field trips to such places as the California Mart and different museums so you’re not always on the computer.

If this sounds like something for you, I would check out the e-learning web site through FIDM at: ww.fidm.com/elearning.

Hope this helps :)

For Fashion Design, you should go to los angeles trade tech college ( a real college where you can transfer your credits for higher education)I am a teacher at FIDM and I sometimes fell bad for the students there because they dont learn the skills needed for the real world of fahion. unless you want to answer phones or …well that it. Los angeles trade tech student get all the jobs in the industry no joke. You should chech out there website at LATTC.com and look at the faschon courses and you will see how intense that program is. compare the hours you spend in each class for sewing, draping, pattern making etc JUST CANT COMPARE! In fact most students go to trade tech after they finish at FIDM and cant pass a sewing class (Fact, I have friends that teach at lattc) you should go on campus to see for yourself and talk to some students…I am sure you will run into students that went to FIDM that are now at trade tech and they as well will tell you how that school is a joke…dont take my word… go to trade tech an reserch for your benefit…

I’m about to be a student a FIDM for Product Development. And even though it seems expensive check out other schools, because FIDM isn’t the most expensive. But they do have the best reviews and connections. FIDM is the most well known Southern California Fashion school.. there must be a reason for that.

True Fashion, it seems you haven’t done your research or your grammer homework. I doubt you are a teacher, because your attitude would have gotten you fired.

Wow Truefashion, I can’t believe you are a teacher at FIDM. You can’t even spell or use proper punctuation! I really doubt that you are who you say you are. If you don’t like FIDM , then don’t teach there! I went to Trade Tech for some classes, and although it is cheap, I felt the class was below basic. If you want to be a pattern maker go to Trade Tech. Most students will NEVER sew in their career, so basic sewing knowledge is all you really need to know. If you are a designer the way you learn how to sew is to actually sew things.. practice makes perfect. DLA

I am in my final quarter at FIDM and I have taken an online course and loved it. It is very interactive and I feel that you learn more through the tests and quizzes than you would if you were in class. This sounds a little ridiculous but, I actually read the chapters and lecture notes as I take the test, and the ability to do that is beneficial to me because thats how I learn. I have a question and I go find the answer. The class I took online required you to post discussion questions from the lecture notes, and that was a really interesting assignment to take part in. You really had the chance to read educated thoughts that were well thought out, instead of jumbled thoughts that you might hear in class. It was also nice to read everyones opinion instead of just hearing the few people who speak up in class.

To go to FIDM you really have to be a creative and resourceful person. You get out what you put into it. Nobody will hold your hand, and hard work always pays off. Use the library AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! It truly is a treasure chest! Ignore the Annex, it is always crowded and the printers are not as high quality as the ones in the main campus computer labs.
