A female dog goes in heat usually once every 6 months. The first part of the heat cycle, you will see a bloody discharge and she will be swollen there too. This usually lasts 9 days. After that, when the discharge turns more of a pinkish or clear color, she allows the male to tie with her. This phase of the heat cycle lasts another 9 days. After that, she will not allow him to tie anymore. Count 63 days (9 weeks) from the first tie and you will have your due date. To plan on her next heat, count 6 months from the first day you noticed her swollen and discharging the dark red. Sometimes they go in heat a little longer than 6 months.
