When you feel depressed, is listenIng to sad music good or bad?

When you feel depresses, is listening to sad music good or bad? I always do but I don’t know if it helps the situation or not

Answer #1

Bad, in my opinion. Only makes me sadder.

Answer #2

I certainly do whenever I’m depressed. It seems to help me. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Everyone has different methods that work for them when they are feeling depressed or sad. If listening to sad music and having a good cry makes you feel better afterwards, then by all means keep doing it. Do whatever seems to be working for you. You know yourself better than anyone, remember :)

Answer #3

Generally, listening to sad music when depressed would make things worse and make your emotions your feeling stronger. When your feeling down the best music to listen to is something upbeat, positive, and that has a “happy” sound to it. For example - dance music.

Answer #4

I find it helps me get all my sad emotions out. Sometimes when I am upset a good cry can help, which usually leads to a good sleep, and sad music helps tip me over the edge lol. So I would say it is good in that situation, for me at least. It can have the effect of keeping you in a bad state of mind though so perhaps it depends on the individual. But in my opinion it helps me push out the sadness.

Answer #5

I always listen to happy music and dance around to make myself feel better but then again just getting all of the tears out feels good too sometimes

Answer #6

Depends on how it makes you feel. If it makes you feel better, like you get a feeling that people out there share your emotions and understand you, then it’s good.

If it makes you angry because the world is all f*cked up or if it makes you feel even sadder, don’t do it.

Answer #7

it depends on how you feel, sometimes listening to the sad music that relates to your situation helps, whereas sometimes you just wanna forget everything and put on happy music so that you dont think about the problem.

Answer #8

I like heavy, sad music when I’m depressed. It helps me get it out of my system. Actually I’m apt to find a classical piece like Albinoni’s Adagio in G, or Mozart’s Requiem, and blast it ‘til it just fills me up with the sound.

Answer #9

For me it’s good because i’ll go to my depressing playlist on itunes and i’ll be listening to an artist and then crave another song by them that’ll be in between depressing and not and then I slowly rise to happier music.

Answer #10

We vicariously feel the emotions of the music we listen to. For me listening to sad music helps me get past it my own sadness. I think you can overdo it though. In college I read Jude the Obscure which has to be the most depressing book I ever read. I think they should have a warning on the cover not to read if you suffer mood disorders.

Answer #11

If that’s the way you cope then sure you can. Everyone has different styles and ways. I do listen so sad music sometimes when I’m not feeling so good, helps me get it out and I get it over with. So if its your way of handeling things it will help.

Answer #12

it usaully makes you sadder ( well, personaly me) because it gives u back the memories of what made u sad.. if that makes sense. Just avoid said music, or try it out if u feel that if will make u feel better.

Answer #13

When I was depressed music made me think and feel good, but not at the same time. Sometimes when I was in a good mood I listened to my favorite singers. When I was in a sad mood I listened to music all day. When I was in a bad mood I listened to songs that got my anger out. But music was all I had to make me feel happy a little.
