What do you think of this fake news (read more)?

I watch on the news that drink coffee it’s good for not being depressed, what I found weird about this kind of news is that the news will never say anything to affect the sales of coffee or selling wine in the movie theater, what I mean to say is that the news will never advice you against any product, for example they will never tell us don’t eat this or don’t drink soda. The news will never be against any product. Now the news said that drink a lot of coffeine it’s good. People is brainwashed to buy more coffee. What do you think?

Answer #1

The news are always exposing how much products effect our health… It’s not “fake” news, they’re just saying although too much caffeine isn’t good for you, it could help with such things as depression.

I dont think its fake news, but I think its the same as pretty much any other science story reported on the news. Just because one group of scientists come to a particular conclusion doesnt mean its true, and without actually reading the scientific study in question I wouldnt accept it as fact. Your statement about never being told not to eat or drink certain things isnt true. A lot of science says things like dont drink too much coffee - why do you think people think too much coffee is bad for them? Also, caffeine is not all that bad for you, and there is actual scientific evidence to suggest it does have atleast some beneficial effects.

well… people believe the news too much, everything’s being controlled… every single tv commercial is being psychologically studied… it “is” brain washing … and indirect way of brain washing … it’s a way of convincing… they call it art, people study all this. caffeine isn’t that good for your health if you have too much of it… i used to have over 2 cups of coffee every single day when i went for a summer program (i had to do a lot of studying and needed it alot) when i came back home and i stopped, i started getting massive headaches it used to kill me.. now i have 1 cup in the morning and i sleep early at night… even if i don’t drink in the morning i don’t get a headache but i lose my focus cuz i’m never awake enough as for i don’t sleep early enough. so it’s not that bad i guess. but i still sort call this brainwashing !

You should understand that information often takes a circuitous route and the news stories are sometimes 2nd or 3rd hand information. Every industry out there has a public relations arm to promote it. The tobacco industry hired doctors to say cigarettes were not addictive and did not cause lung cancer as long as they could get away with it. Now the oil and coal industry hires people to say global warming is a hoax. Dairy is one of the unhealthiest items in our diet but the dairy industry is able to run ads promoting it as manna from Heaven and the FDA which is largely funded by agribusiness exists to serve industry interests rather than public health so you can bet that every study that even hints of health benefits of dairy gets heavily promoted and any that question the healthfulness of dairy never sees the light of day outside of obscure medical journals. Few people would ever defend soda as a healthy beverage but consumers also do not know how serious the consequences are of high soda consumption. By the time information gets to consumers it is filtered, nuanced, massaged, and spun. Coffee has its good and bad points. For people with crappy diets coffee is their main source of antioxidants. I have been drinking tea as long as I can remember and started drinking coffee at 12. I have no doubt that coffee and tea are healthier choices than soda.

As with everything, always follow the money trail. Whoever paid for the survey is going to make sure it looks a certain way. And statistics can be presented in many biased ways. Example last week- headline said, PEOPLE WHO DRINK DIET SODA ARE FATTER THAN PEOPLE WHO DON’T. There are a thousand different ways to interpret this data, and some organizations may want you to assume that aspartame makes you fat. Others will want you to know that it’s only fat people who drink diet soda, and so on, and so on. . Mt advice, yes, DO question everything you read, seek out reputable sources and compare them all. Everyone has an agenda.
