Should I eventually date my best friend?

I have a friend who’s a guy and he helped me out with alot of stuff last year. I consider him my best friend because he is part of the reason I’m still here right now. So he and I both don’t like each other in a romantic way. But does one necessarily have to have feelings for someone to date them and then see if feelings develop?

I just have a feeling that we may end up together one day. I don’t ever want to lose him and I love him and find him attractive, but I don’t have any feelings beyond him being my best friend.

I have a fear that if we do date, and then we break up, then we may not be friends anymore.

Just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Thanks!

A best friend can be a good bf, but like you said after a break up a friendship may not be possible. My bf is my best friend, he was my best friend before we started dating, I do hate to say that if we were ever to break up that we would no longer be friends, due to my history I find no reason to have an ex as a friend, but then again I have never had a bf and a best friend in one either, you really have to go with your heart on this one. If you feel the friendship is more important than a relatinship than I would stick with just being friends. Just my opinion though, good luck to ya both and hope I didn’t confuse you on what I think about all this

If you don’t have feelings for him, don’t date him. Those feelings may never develop and you could ruin the friendship. If you end of developing feelings in the future, I’d say go for it.
