What would you do if an employer asked you for the password of your social network to see what you do online?

I dont like that i think this has nothing to do with it. What do you think tell me please thank you.

I can see their point, they want to see who exactly they are hiring. However, I feel weirded out by it. In a way I feel kind of violated by that. Of course employers already have personal information such as your SSN but FB has things like your political views, religious views. It might also include information that you don’t mind your friends on FB knowing but you don’t want your boss knowing (such as sexual orientation) and other personal things that you might not want to enter the work force. While I see their point I also feel like some things we should be able to keep away from work. To me I feel like it is a HUGE invasion of privacy.

Answer #2

That a complete invasion of privacy. What, should I give them my house key as well? If they’re going to ask for my password, they should give me their passwords to their social networking websites so I can make sure my employer is safe and a good person too. This is why they have background checks! I heard about this earlier this morning and I think it’s so wrong. I have nothing to hide on my Facebook, I just don’t believe this is right at all.

First off, I would refuse to give my login information. Secondly, I am careful to separate my professional and private on-line life. . I only use my real name for professional correspondence and for everything else I use pseudonyms. Even if I gave login information for my professional page they would only find the most mundane of things under my real name. This isn’t perfect. I’ve had people piece together bits of pieces of information from posts and figure out who I was. I was rather surprised when friend I hadn’t seen in years asked me if I was so-and-so on slashdot. I asked him how he figured it out and he managed to identify me from my comments about the weather, my areas of expertise, political leanings, my age from events I remembered, the industry I was in etc. With enough random bits of information he narrowed it down far enough to recognize me. With enough time and energy I’m sure an investigator could track down every one of my accounts and activities but I don’t intend to make it easy.

Answer #4

that is wrong.i dont think they can force you to do it…now i guess its ok if they go and look you up because everyone can do that(thats why you can set privacy settings) i think colleges and company will actually go and look at your FB before they hire you.but they wont ask you for your password that is just wrong
