OK, this may sound trite, but I’ve been a teacher in adult education ever since 1960. And this is what I’ve learned:

Any human being can concentrate for only so long, and still retain the material. If you’ve tried to study round-the-clock for an important exam, and ended up panicked at not remembering anything, you’ll know what I mean.

It’s not very exciting, but it makes sense to set up a plan, a realistic one. For, say, 3 hours in the morning andt3 or 4 hours in the afternoon and evening. Leave time for breaks - when you WALK AROUND, swing your arms, get fresh air (even if the weather is rotten). And go to bed at a sensible hour.

And before you go to sleep (EASY on the late meals and on the alcohol, eh?) lie there and think through some of the things you reviewed that day. Don’t panic if you don’t remember everything - but it does help to fasten them in your longer-term memory if you review them before you fall asleep.

Good luck! (ps if you can’t follow your schedule one day, the heavens aren’t going to fall in, either)

Best wishes from Susila (whose father and brother were engineers, and very good ones at that!)
