Can you eat the marinade that you marinaded your chicken in?

I am making teriyaki chicken….I put the chicken in teriyaki sauce, sugar, salt and pepper….do I need to drain the marinade…or is it safe to eat it like that…even though the raw chicken was in it…

Answer #1

If you mean baisting the chicken with the marinade while it cooks, yes.

Answer #2

Its safe because it was heated up and cooked also which kills the bacteria. I cook chicken breast in tomato sauce and then save the tomato sauce for spaghetti the next night all the time.

Answer #3

If you mean the blood from the chicken, don’t “drink” it. But if you mean the sauce that you covered the chicken in, just taste a small lick of it, if you think it’s safe, go for it. But I don’t recommend you to eat it, you may have the “runs”.

Answer #4

To be honest, using it as a base while cooking is fine but if it left over in the bowl where the raw chicken was sitting in, then I wouldnt use it after the chicken was cooked if I understood you correctly…might get a case of poisoning…i would much rather you use more to base with while cooking & use the remaining sauce that was cooked as a base. what ever was left in the bowl before any cooking was done should be tossed into the sink not used as a sauce after raw chicken or beef was dipped in it…

just my 2 cents better safe then sick!
