What to do when your driver's permit expired?

Does it cost money to renew? I plan to get my drivers license next month, so I wouldn’t need it for long.. but I still need to practice for the drivers test!! ah! (and probably will need a “not-expired” one for the test)…

Answer #1

Are you talking about your Beginner’s permit? I’m not sure what the laws are in your state, but here, if your beginner’s permit expires, you need to take the test again.

Answer #2

You shouldnt have let it expire - since its expired you have to re-do evrything you did to get your permit, they dont just hand you another one. Remember this for when you get a license, because everytime you let ti expire and forget to renew it you have to take the test and pay all over again.

Oh, haha, well for MN, we take the class, then take a “written test” then get the Permit (maybe the same as a beginners permit?) where you can drive but there has to be an adult in the vehicle with you. Then after 6 mo. you can take a “behind the wheel” course with the instructor. Then you take the official TEST. But I just have my permit and im gonna take the test soon. but my permit expired…

Answer #4

Yes, that sounds just like a beginner’s permit…you’re going to have to re-take the test.

Answer #5

They dont? =( But they let me schedule the test and i gave them the permit number and everything… hmm…well thanx for helping anyways

Answer #6

Dang, they should’ve told me this =/ Well oh well thanx so much for your help :)

Answer #7

Ok everyone, good news!! Today I went to go renew my driver’s permit, and I have the correct answer (for ppl who live in MN at least): A $12 fee and signing a form is all that is necessary. There is NO repeating any tests. No repeating behind-the-wheel, and no repeating the class!! :D
