How do you get dreads?

Can anyone explain to me how dreads are done? I’m just curious as to how it stays, and what all is done to make dreads.

by working sections of hair together in clumps, twisting/rubbing them together for a long period of time. i don’t know how to explain it very well!

You first have to wash your hair. Then, put this dread locking spray on your hair, near the roots to help it stick better. Next section the hair out and backcomb a LOT. You have to keep the knots tight to the scalp to encourage hair to dread as it grows. Once you’ve done that, tie a rubber band around the end to hold it. Then you have to wax your dreads. You take the dread wax and rub it in your fingers ‘til it’s warm, and rub it into your dreads, rolling them between your fingers ‘til you can’t see the wax anymore. THEN take a hairdryer and use it to heat up the wax and melt it into your dreads. Use a paper towel, run it down the dread to remove any excess wax. And you’re done! Real dreads use chemicals to keep the hair together in sections like that for a long period of time.
