Dogs are not a one time thing…training is always on-going…Also, they go thru periods of testing and rebellion. If something has changed in your life lately, he’s noticed it…grief, very busy, fear, worry…he’s very sensitive to all these things…and when their human is going thru something, they see “weak”…instinct drives them (most times unwillingly) to be the “leader”. Keep in mind that he’d MUCH rather YOU were the leader…honest.

If he’s a year to 16 months, he could be testing you…(this is the teenage time)…if he’s older than 24 months, then he needs you to be a stronger leader…It doesn’t matter that he knows his commands if he doesn’t respect you. Start working him on his obedience (on leash, just like when you were training him…lots of praise when he does well)…You’ll probably want to spend 15 minutes, twice a day for 10 days or so. If that doesn’t do it, aim for 13 or 14 days…

Also, NILIF…Nothing in Life is Free…when you feed him, make him perform…sit or down…speak, whatever…he has to DO something to get what he wants. When he wants outside, do the same thing. Same for a treat. ANYTHING that he wants he has to work for it. Be consistant on this, and you’ll regain his respect.

Continue to work with the dog every single day. Remember to stay patient with him because he can sense your emotions. Show him that you are the boss and he is going to have to mind. I know it sounds disgusting, but if it gets really bad and begins to become wild, spit in his food. I’ve never done this to my dog because I think it’s gross. (lol.) However, if they see you spit in their food, they will see that you are assuming the dominant role. Sam

Answer #3

It sounds like he has decided that he wants to be top dog - leader of the pack.

You need to reassert your dominance with him showing him that you are still in charge. Reward him with lots of attention when he minds but ignore him when he doesn’t.
