How many hairs does the average dog have?

How many hairs does the average dog have. My lab puppy seems to have all of them for the breed. Cappy is healthy, but I am surprised at the amount of hair he sheds–so is my vaccum. Any thoughs on hair care for my dog? (I am serious about the first questions. Thanks.

Hi,

Well, an average person has about 100,000 hairs on their scalp. This is also a much smaller area than the size of an average dog, say a terrier or small lab. So I would say…half a million? a million?. Lots.

Excessive shedding can be caused by a couple of things: one is heat. If the dog is too hot he/she will shed to get cooler. Another possibility is that your dog isn’t getting all of the nutrients he/she needs. Make sure to feed them a good-quality brand of dog food, such as Purina or IAMS.
