Why doesn't my dog like to cuddle or be held?

He’s a puppy and not even a year old yet, I try to hold him or cuddle with him in the couch, and he starts crying, and it gets me mad because the reasons I wanted a dog was so that I could cuddle with it. He’s a baby and he’s not even a year yet.

Answer #1

well maybe you still have yet to warm up to it. Try just petting him and getting really acquainted first before you make the move to 2nd doggie base.

Answer #2

Maybe people treated him badly before he was with you?

Or maybe you cuddle him on the wrong occasions, when he wants to jump and run?

Try to go slow and wait till he gets more used to you. Pet his head only at first. Then slowly try to make him acquainted to the cuddles.

Answer #3

Puppies are notoriously energetic and if they feel restrained in any way, it could cause them to react like that. He’s still very young - it will likely be at least two years until he begins to calm down to the point where he’ll allow you to hold him.

Answer #4

To go a little further, if you continue to constantly restrain the dog will negatively impact what he thinks about you. If you keep doing it, he will always think that you will hold him and he won’t want to be around you as much.
