How can I let my doctor know that I'm serious?

Okay, every time I go to the doctor they say I’m perfectly fine. I’ve been dealing with extreme chest pain once in a while since March. It’s so bad that I can hardly breathe. It’s like they think I’m faking it or something. She didn’t even do any tests or check my blood pressure… My doctor gave me a wrist brace because she thought it had something to do with my hand. Now what? I’ve talked to my parents about finding a new doctor and they won’t take me.

Okay, FA made me clean up my reply -- I said your doctor is terrible f‘ed up and you need to kick them in the azz, also tell your parents how you feel and that you aren’t going to put up with it any longer or have a friend take you. If I were there, I would take you! Even though I can’t drive and if I did, I could get ticketed -_-

Answer #2

I meant terribly.

Answer #3

I told my parents, they did nothing. I don’t have any friends to take me, and someone would still have to pay for it.

Answer #4

D: Why aren’t your parents doing anything about it? I honestly don’t know what to say, I thought parents were supposed to be a little more caring for their kids than that. No offense. Then again, my parents never take me to the doctor til I’m dying.

What is the health system like where you are? Where I am, as long as you have your health card, you can book an appointment yourself and the cost is covered. Would you be able to do that? If not, do you have any relatives who could take you? Grand parents, aunt, uncle?

Some doctors, mine was, can be terribly belittling when teenagers or kids come to see them. Perhaps you can be a bit more aggressive with your doctor. Not physically of course! Tell him or her where exactly it has been hurting, when, whether it fluctuates or not, when it hurts the worst, everything you can think of. Tell him or her that it is affecting your daily life and d emand that something be checked.

Next time the chest pain comes along literally bawl your eyes out to your parents to take you to the hospital. Make a scene, scare them. That’s how I have to get things across to my mom.

Answer #7

*tell them to take you

Answer #8

Ya know, I may just have to do that…

How old are you? If you are 18 and above, you can decide on your own and ask for a second opinion with other medical professionals. Try to read more about chest pains, so you can discuss with your parents in detail what exactly are you feeling. For sure they will understand, your health and your welfare is every parent’s priority.

Answer #11

I agree with twiddlemuffin. It kinda sounds scary. You shouldnt just stick to on e doctor. I was terribly sick for a whole month and noone knew what was wrong with me. Everyone thought i would die, including me. This was back in 9th grade. we checked out different doctors and finally i got better. my old doctor was fixed on giving me more meds but turned out that the meds were the reason i was sick. I think you should make a scene and scare your parents. though it would be mean, it would be better. you’ll be sure whats going on and its better to be safe isnt it? (:

Next time it’s happening, go immediately, by any available means, to the nearest hospital emergency room. They cannot refuse to treat you, and they will try to identify the problem. Later, they will bill your parents. Consider telling your parents ahead of time that that is what you plan to do. Maybe it will help them change their attitude.
