Do something use electricity...

when it’s plugged into the wall, but not plugged into anything else, like a phone charger or computer charger. Does it still use energy even though its not in use? My guess would be no…the bill is higher though so I thought I would ask just for fun.

Answer #1

A phone charger (or any charger) plugged into the wall will use a slight amount of electricity…however if you left an extension cord plugged in, with nothing plugged into IT…no, no power would be getting used.

Answer #3

I agree with the first answer from nicksgurl. I forget the number, but you can save a certain percentage on you electric bill by unplugging things not in use. It was something significant thought, like at least 10%. If you have things plugged into a surge protector, you turn the surge protector off and that’s as good an unplugging.

You may notice sometimes when something is plugged in but doing nothing that some part of it is warm, like the part that goes into the wall or the “box” part of the cord of any ac adapter.

Websites that talk about energy saving and efficiency will confirm these things for you.

Answer #4

absolutely that you will not consume energy

Answer #5

A lot of things today still draw a little power when ‘off’ so they can have a ‘quick on’ capability.
