Do I need help?

Okay is paranoia a mental illness just like schizophrenia and what makes those two different from each other

Answer #1

Paranoia is a natural side effect of extreme anxiety and or depression or a combination of both.. paranoia is a side effect of the mental illness schizophrenia but schizophrenia also causes you to hear voices and can cause you to feel sudden urges to act out in ways you would not normally act so if it’s only thoughts that are paranoid then it’s probably not schizophrenia. Paranoia at certain levels like if you think people are out to get you, you think things are poisoned.. or basically any type of unreasonable fear that you know is off but you can’t control is considered a type of psychotic state of mind.. don’t worry though psychotic is just a medical term it’s really not that terrible and is very easy to fix I would suggest you see a psychiatrist or therapist to refer you to a psychiatrist often times paranoia can be fixed through anti anxiety medication such as celexa, zoloft, or prozac and with usually a anti psychotic such a risperidone is also used after a few months of use you should be completely back to your normal state of mind but it will only take a couple weeks before youll start to see improvement in your state of mind after taking the drugs… Other ways to help it until then is if you start having paranoid thoughts take deep breaths, go for a walk, pray, read… basically anything that comforts you or makes you feel good will help take your mind off the thoughts… good luck and I hope things get better for you soon :)

I don’t know I hear things and I think I see things that arent really there and I scare myself so much that like I don’t know

Answer #3

I just looked it up and it’s a thought process characterized by excessive anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. more on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoia if you havent already looked. I’m pretty sure though.

Answer #4

thinking you hear and see things can occur from anxiety attacks like if you start having paranoid thoughts and you get really worked up over something you can start to cause yourself to have physical side effects such as shortness of breath, light headedness, feeling very over heated, it can cause your stomach to hurt, can cause you to feel nauseated, chest pains, there are tons of side effects from becoming over anxious or having a side effect.. like I said before try to do something to get your mind off of it and see if the things you think your seeing and hearing go away.. theres a good chance they will.

Answer #5

everyone deals with paranoia over the smallest things, its isnt a mental illness. Paranoia is a symptom of schizophrenia but, theres so many levels of it that you shouldnt have to worry. when you’re paranoid you’re mainly being controlled by your fear, making you think something is there when it isnt, based of fear.

I know someone whos so afraid of roaches that when she would see one, she kept imagining them everywhere and was too scared to walk around my apartment! she kept smackin her leg and body because she thought a roach was crawling on her.

So I doubt you have schizophrenia. but with being paranoid, just lose your fear. control yourself and try to realize its all in your head.
