Do I Move Or Do I Stay?

It was a whirlwind love affair. We met online in June, engaged in August, married that December. The online conversations were lengthy and thorough. We both at 43, divorced, with three children. I had one 19 year old still at home when we married. He had all three of his with him age 10, 15, and 20. He came to me, 3000 miles west with his children because he is a nurse and could get a job most anywhere, and did.

Slowly, his children have picked away at our marriage. I cannot even begin to tell you the stories of what has gone on here; you would think I had made them up for shock purposes. Topics include embezzling and incest. Two of the children now live elsewhere, leaving the the youngest still at home, now age 15.

More and more of my anger is now shifting from the kids to him. Everything he does is starting to gnaw at my nerves. I stay at work late to avoid being home, most of the time coming home after 9 so that the 15 year old is in bed. I undress, brush my teeth, and go to bed. The less confrontation the better.

I have tried talking to him, we’ve tried family therapy, we’ve tried individual therapy. All I find is myself wishing he’d find someone else. I justu want peace and quiet in my life.

Do I move out? Or what else?

From your description, it seems like there might not be any hope (or inclination) on his part for reconciliation. You might give it one last, honest try & discuss it with him, but it seems like he may have given up on the relationship. Hopefully after your dialogue with him, if you both still have feelings for each other, you can start the path to recovery, however, it takes two people who are both caring and committed to the relationship to succeed. After the discussion, if things don’t start getting better, then maybe it’s time to move on with your life.
