Will I get in trouble if I move out at 17?

I am 17 years old will I get into trouble if I leave my house with out permission to go live with my boyfriend.

Answer #1

Legally, you must be the ‘age of majority’ for your state (usually 18) or become emancipated:

Emancipation refers to the point at which a child is free from parental control.

Emancipation may be the result of a voluntary agreement between the parents and child, or it may be implied from their acts and ongoing conduct. For example, a child who leaves her parents’ home and becomes ENTIRELY SELF-SUPPORTING without their objection is considered emancipated, while a child who goes to stay with a friend or relative and gets a part-time job is not. Emancipation may also occur when a minor child marries or enters the military.

In order to become emancipated you must be able to answer the above questions and be self supporting which means:

  • Have a job
  • Live in home or apartment
  • pay bills

Contact the Court office or a Professional Attorney in your immediate area for further assistance.

I wish you the best !!

If you don’t get in trouble, then your boyfriend could. If he is over the age of 18 and he has you move in with him, he could possibly get arrested and charged with some kind of misdemeanor or something. I’d definitely wait until your 18 at the very earliest to move out. Although, I moved out when I was 18 and really bad things happened… just be careful what you do and who you choose to live with. It’s not a decision to make on the spur of the moment. Think about it calmly and rationally without anger or feelings of resentment or rebellion. It’s a life changing decision, especially when your in this transitional period of your life. I hope this helps…

God Bless!

Answer #3

Well you can’t wait another 10 months? I know it seems like F0REVER, but it really does go by SO fast !! If not then your only other choice is emancipation ^ read the above, amblessed explains it all! (= good luck

Answer #4

It really is only 10 months, and honestly the amount of time and money it will take to get an emancipation, you’ll probably be over 18 by then!

Answer #5

yes you will…your not an adult and until you reach 18 years of age you are legally under your parents care so any decision you make your going to have to run it by your parents first

Answer #6

aside from the legal aspect, what about the family conflict?
