Disoriented Dog??

My dog is only 4 years old and he is walking around as if he is disoriented. His face use to fallowing me around the room everywhere I would go. Now he whimpers as I move as if he can’t see me. He use to run outside and now he is hesitant and only walks a few feet and does a circle in the same direction eve time as if only one eye is working. As he walks he rubs up on objects that are on his left side. His left hear is droopy. I took him to a vet and they said his vision looks ok but maybe he has slight neck injury. I don’t know but it’s killing me!

I think I’d go for a second opinion for this guy…it could be a neck injury (pinched nerve?), but if that is the case, didn’t they give you anything to help him thru it? Rimadyl, or even suggest an coated aspirin or bufferin??

Can I make a suggestion? For connective tissue damage, Ester-C and Vitamin E…depending on his size, Ester-C…2000 mgs to 4000 mgs a day…Vitamin E., 200 units to 400 units a day…Also, if he is a big dog (anything over 50 or 60 lbs, look into the Glycosamine/Condroiton/MSM compounds they make for dogs…MSM interrupts the pain impulses to the brain…and the other two ingredients help rebuild connective tissue (as does the Vit E.)…

I’d take him back (or call), and ASK…what can we do to make him comfortable, until this heals??? I had to do this with my dog…we went once to get x-rays, and he wouldn’t go under the sedation, so they sent us home (as if that was all they could do). I called again, 3 days later…and THIS time, they went out of their way to accomodate us…we got x-rays, meds, and a plan of action.

I wonder if there might be an ear problem - hard of hearing/infection/affecting equilibrium / balance, etc ?…Sure hope he’s better soon !!

Answer #3

Find a Chiropractor for you dog. I really think this sounds like a pinched nerve.

Answer #4

I’d wonder if he had a stroke, or head injury, or has meningitis, or encephalitis…, I’d be a little more concerned that your vet seems to be. Could someone have jerked on his leash hard enough to hurt his neck? Or is he a tiny dog that could have gotten hurt falling off the bed? If it’s his neck , maybe a dog chiopractor could help.

All of these suggestions are great ideas. I would go to another vet, because if he just said nothing is wrong with the eyes and allowed you to go on that note then you need to see someone else, This sounds like it needs to be taken care of. You know your dog is not acting right and someone needs to find out what it is.
