What's the difference between Inactive and Active ingredients?

I was reading the back of a sunscreen thing(don’t judge I’m hecka bored) and there was Active, and Inactive? I am just confused on what the difference is…

Answer #1

Active ingredients are things that actively make the product work. (ie - what actually blocks UV rays) Inactive ingredients are going be things that hold the product together or give scent or color. They don’t really affect how the product works. (ie - what ever sort of base they use for the sunscreen lotion)
